What are our wires made of?

Here at BAS HQ we have built our designs on affordable, contemporary costume jewellery using plated copper wires.

We use a 9ct golf plate and a 10% sterling silver filled wires for the main part of our designs.  There is a slightly thicker plating on the silver, but this explains the reason why  our prices are the same for both gold and silver.

Majority of our designs will use plating, but occasionally we also use a gold filled and sterling silver. WE KNOW! So many different types of wire!

We have tried to explain the difference in wires for you in the diagram below for ease.

Questions people always ask us…

Will the wire turn your finger green? The plated wire won’t turn your finger green, BUT once the plating wears through to the copper, this may react to certain skin types and colour the skin a slight tinge of green. This is the reaction to the copper.

 Will the plating wear away?  The nature of plated jewellery means that the plating may wear away over time.  However, we do over an upgrading service where we will create the same piece for you using gold filled or sterling silver, in order to be able to keep your BAS piece for longer. We also offer a re-wire service for any pieces that are a little tired and need tightening.
